Successful Seating Structure for RAF Museum Midlands

The Midlands RAF Museum appointed Steeldeck to construct a bespoke seating structure for their summer show, ‘BRAVO, BRAVO!’. Based on the provided dimensions and initial discussions, we proposed two options that met the budget and brief: a continuous seating structure around three sides or three separate rectangular blocks. We showcased various examples of our previous seating builds on our website to help them make an informed decision – settling on the continuous seating block.

We conducted a site visit to verify the space and ensure our initial design, which accommodated 241 seats, complied with access and egress regulations. During the visit, we discovered that the original design would not fit the space and would not provide the required 1.5 meters at the sides for access and egress. To resolve this, we adjusted the design by reducing the width and extending the length while maintaining the seating capacity, resulting in a final configuration that seated 240.

The build went very smoothly, facilitated by access through a large airport hangar door. Prior to arriving on site, we requested a ground plan to determine the exact positioning of the seating block. This allowed us to pre-mark the structure in AutoCAD, taking precise measurements of each wall. Consequently, the marking-out stage of the build was quick and efficient. On the day, we received excellent support from Knights Crewing Service. The client was extremely satisfied with the outcome.
