Rehearsal Staging for Multi-Level Production
At Steeldeck, no two projects are the same, and it’s the variety that keeps our work interesting. The creative team at the Old Diorama Arts Centre in London’s Regent’s Place got in touch as they prepared for rehearsals of an upcoming production of Beautiful Little Fool. They required theatre stage hire that could replicate their final set, including a multi-level structure to help the cast rehearse movement, timing and entrances ahead of the final build.
The challenge was immediately clear: the rehearsal space offered no means to anchor into walls or floors, and the client was mindful to protect the floor space. From the outset, we knew this staging hire solution would need to be a self-supporting structure, carefully designed to work within the practical constraints of the space.
We proposed a range of options, and in close collaboration with the client, we agreed on a simple and highly effective setup. The final theatre staging hire solution comprised a single L-shaped platform with integrated treads. The structure started at a 3ft level and steps down to 2ft and then 1ft, giving the cast the essential variations in height they needed for rehearsal, while keeping the build straightforward and mindful of the floor area.
