The season is upon us and young people around the country are busy rehearsing for the all-important Christmas play. Over the past 30 years we’ve witnessed a huge change in the production values of school events.

From musicals and theatre to graduation ceremonies, schools have continued to up the ante and are putting on highly professional shows. So much so, that we design and build staging and seating structures for schools today, that are not dissimilar in ambition or scale to our work in major arts venues like the Young Vic and the Manchester Opera House.

Our experience across the arts enables us to help educational institutions take their productions to that next level – increasing audience capacity, improving sightlines, ticket sales and performance area. Most importantly, young people can be part of life-changing cultural activities within superb settings that match their talent

Whatever your budget, we’ll work closely with you to find the right arrangement for your event. Here are some of the ways Steeldeck seating and staging helps primary, secondary and higher education organisations enhance their events:

Maximise audience capacity and improve sightlines

We transform sports halls, assembly rooms and outdoor areas into performance spaces using the best equipment in the business, to ensure the highest safety standards for audiences and performers alike. Audience experience is also a priority – with our flexible system we can look closely at sightlines and advise on the best layout for the available space. Last month we built this tiered seating structure with 280 seats in the sports hall at Sirius West Academy in Hull for a theatre production by Back to Ours.

Take it outside

In warmer months, outdoor areas can provide stunning backdrops for concerts and plays. Our staging can be also be used to create tiered seating and viewing platforms for school sports days. We built these interlinking circular stages at The King’s School Canterbury for a theatre production.

Go bigger

In June we built the stage extension below for Sutton High School. It created an additional 38ft x 10ft area. Our equipment is easy to assemble so you can hire and build staging with our kits or have a custom stage designed and built for you.

Do something different

Our modular stage systems can transform spaces, whatever height, width or layout configuration is required. Our in-house designers come up with creative solutions to difficult spaces, tight schedules and uneven ground. The stage below for Godolphin and Latymer school created a mixed-height performance space, and the staircases for Surbiton High School allow for grand entrances.
