Job Description
First in. Last out.
We build the stuff people sit on, stand on and rely on. Seating for the National Theatre. Stages at Glastonbury. Structures for the BBC, ITV, ExCeL, Pinewood and the Royal Albert Hall. Behind every one of those jobs is someone who took the call, priced it, booked it and made sure the right kit left the yard on the right truck. That is this job.
We are looking for a Hire Administrator to join our dry hire desk. You will be the first voice clients hear, the person who turns an enquiry into a booking, and the link between the office, the warehouse and the drivers. It is busy, varied and central to how the business runs.
The job:
- Take enquiries by phone and email, advise clients on standard products and options, and turn requests into clear, accurate quotes and bookings.
- Own dry hire and standard jobs from enquiry to invoice. Work with Project Managers to fulfil more bespoke designs and keep things moving.
- Raise the paperwork: pick lists, delivery notes, invoices and the health and safety documents each job needs.
- Schedule collections and deliveries with the Operations team and make sure the Warehouse has kit prepped and ready.
- Check returns, log damage and shortages, and keep hire records accurate in Current RMS.
- Keep Operations and Project Managers in the loop so nothing falls between teams.
You:
- Organised and calm with several jobs live at once.
- A clear, friendly communicator on the phone and in writing.
- Quick to sort problems rather than pass them on.
- Confident with Excel and office software. Current RMS, other rental software or AutoCAD are a bonus, not a requirement. We will train you.
- Hire, events, theatre or AV experience is an advantage. Attitude matters more.
The deal:
Salary: £31,500 per annum. We offer training and real progression in a growing business. Several of our senior team started on the hire desk.
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays.
Location: Based at our South Bermondsey depot (Unit 58, T. Marchant Estate, 42-72 Verney Road, London SE16 3DH).
Hours: Full-time, 8am–4.30pm Monday–Friday.
Start: ASAP.
Apply by Monday 21st September, 2026 to admin@steeldeck.co.uk with a cover letter and CV — please title the subject line: Hire Administrator Application
