Spill Festival: Soho Square, London

Theatre: Railway Children @ Waterloo Station

The scale of a big West End Show, the Railway Children involved the conversion of the Waterloo Eurostar terminal into something akin to a 1,000 seat traverse theatre stage. To create both stage and seating, Steeldeck^® filled in one of the tracks to existing platform level and built new platforms for a train that had been brought down from York. We then supplied a backstage cross over along the tracks for the actors and a high-level tech area.

Theatre: English National Opera @ The Young Vic

A temporary auditorium for the English National Opera at the Young Vic that required the stalls to meet the circle with pinpoint accuracy as the guardrail was removed from the balcony to give a completely open structure around the stage. Using the Young Vic's existing seating stock and endeavouring as much as possible to blend in to the surroundings.

Theatre: Don John @ Battersea Arts Centre

The installation of a 470 seat temporary auditorium and stage for Kneehigh Theatre Company's production of Don John in the Grand Hall at the Battersea Arts Centre. The auditorium was tailored to both the plan of the room, the arched ceiling and an existing curved balcony.

Steeldeck's high strength to weight ratio allowed the engineer to keep the bracing to a minimum, ultimately saving weight. Our range of 3, 2 and 1.5kN/m engineered guardrail meant the entire stage and auditoria structure was fully compliant.
