The Battersea Arts Centre (BAC)
The installation of a 470 seat temporary auditorium and stage for Kneehigh Theatre Company’s production of Don John in the Grand Hall at the Battersea Arts Centre. The auditorium was tailored to both the plan of the room, the arched ceiling and an existing curved balcony.
Steeldeck’s high strength to weight ratio allowed the engineer to keep the bracing to a minimum ultimately saving weight. Our range of 3, 2 and 1.5kN/m engineered guardrail meant the entire structure was fully compliant.

A 100 yard walkway through the woods providing public and disabled access to a hospitality marquee and picnic areas. This structure was designed by Steeldeck to be both practical and meet the more unusual aesthetic requirement of a woodland setting.

The build of the Gladiator’s pyramid for Sky TV was brought to Steeldeck by Les McCallum. The entire build was executed in an eight hour time frame from arrival of the first truck at Pinewood Studios until sign off.
Conceptually designed by the Olivier Award winning designer Jenny Tiramani this auditorium aimed to recreate some of the feel of a 16th Century court production at the Great Hall in Hampton Court as part of a four week residency by the Globe Theatre.
Due to the very historic nature of the building two supervising conservators were present throughout the build and a rigorous method statement was applied to the installation.

The construction of a flat stage from the back wall of the theatre out into the stalls to meet the balcony to give the Liverpool Playhouse the opportunity to create an “In the Round” environment for Timberlake Wertenbaker’s “Our Country’s Good”. The new stage had a built in access trap for the performers as well as audience access via three staircases and a disabled ramp.

After the sale of an old MG our rentals manager decided that the easiest way to deliver it was to load it in one of the trucks and take it himself!
To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Temple’s Royal Charter a special conversion of Middle Temple Hall was commissioned for the staging of Romeo and Juliet. Using the existing banqueting seats Steeldeck tailor made an auditorium for the four week run.
